Medtronic secures FDA approval for Altaviva device

Med-Tech Insights reports that Medtronic has received FDA approval for its Altaviva device, a minimally invasive implantable tibial neuromodulation (ITNM) therapy designed to treat urge urinary incontinence.

The device is implanted just above the ankle in a short procedure without the need for sedation or imaging, and delivers electrical impulses to the tibial nerve to restore communication between the bladder and brain. It features a battery lifespan of up to 15 years with only intermittent charging required, and is also MRI compatible.

This approval marks a significant step forward in MedTech, addressing a large and underserved market while providing patients with a simpler, long-lasting therapy option that reduces the burden of current treatments.
