AI-powered test enables accurate at-home hearing screening

AI-powered test enables accurate at-home hearing screening

HTWorld reports that researchers at the University of Manchester have developed an AI-powered version of the Digits-in-Noise (DIN) test, allowing people to screen their hearing accurately at home without the need for clinical supervision.

The system combines text-to-speech and automatic speech recognition technology to deliver a self-administered test in around 10 minutes. Early studies show comparable accuracy to conventional DIN tests, opening the door to greater accessibility and earlier detection of hearing loss.

By reducing reliance on in-clinic resources and enabling frequent monitoring, this innovation highlights the growing role of AI-driven digital tools in MedTech, supporting more proactive patient care and widening access to screening services.
